It’s not easy to know what to wear to a new dance class, particularly if dance is a new thing for you.

You want to wear something that makes you feel comfortable and allows you to move freely. Here are a few, dance apparel suggestions:

Comfortable clothing options:

  • Leggings, Jazz Pants or Long shorts
  • Tights with shorts
  • A leotard or sports bra
  • A t-shirt or fitted top
  • Thin socks

Other clothing options:

  • Running pants or sweat pants
  • Jeans
  • Dark colored shorts
  • A t-shirt or sweatshirt

Remember, you want to be able to focus on your dance instruction and avoid being distracted by your clothing.

Footwear depends on the dance style. Smooth-soled dance shoes are often used for Latin partner dances; supportive sneakers are suitable for styles such as Hip Hop and Dancehall. Ballet and Heels classes have their own footwear requirements. Please check the information for your class or ask your instructor before your first session.

No partner is needed. We rotate partners in our partner-dance classes. Solo styles such as Bollywood, Hip Hop and Dancehall focus on individual movement and choreography.
