What is Dancehall?

Dancehall is a Jamaican music and dance culture that developed in Jamaica, particularly during the late 1970s and 1980s, and has since influenced dance, music and popular culture around the world. The movement is recognised for its distinctive grooves, rhythmic footwork, body movement, isolations, attitude and individual expression, with many recognised steps and movements emerging from Jamaican dancers, crews and communities.

Dancehall continues to evolve alongside its music and culture, making musicality, creativity and cultural understanding an important part of learning the style. Our Dancehall dance classes in Sydney introduce dancers to the foundations, steps, grooves and choreography of Dancehall while helping them understand how the movement connects with the music and Jamaican culture behind it.

Why Choose La Fiesta Dance Factory for Dancehall?

At La Fiesta Dance Factory®, our Dancehall classes combine energetic dance training with an appreciation of the foundations, music and cultural background of Jamaican Dancehall. Our focus is on developing dancers rather than simply teaching routines, helping you build rhythm, coordination, musicality, movement quality, confidence and individual expression as you learn.

We believe learning Dancehall should involve an understanding and respect for its Jamaican origins while giving dancers space to develop their own skills and style. Our teaching approach brings together foundations, choreography, musicality and performance in an environment where dancers can learn at their own pace, challenge themselves and enjoy the movement.
